Windlestone Hall was built in 1835 and listed as
being of historic importance, the hall was described as one of the
regions grandest stately homes and was once the family home and
birth place of 1950s Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden. During the
second world war it saw service as a prisoner of war camp
(believed to be the only POW camp for German female prisoners) and
finally became a school for troubled youngsters before closing in
the 1990's. Now it is for sale and likely to be changed into a
Hotel or leisure complex.
