Ullswater, Lake District, Cumbria. Ullswater is the second largest lake in the Lake District at 7.5 miles long. on average 3/4 mile wide and with a maximum depth of 205 feet at Howtown. It has three distinct bends giving it a dog's leg appearance. The village of Pooley Bridge is at the northern end, Glenridding at the southern end, with Howtown about halfway down. This image is of a boathouse just outside Pooley Bridge. I took this photograph early one morning when en-route to do a bit of hill walking. The sun had not been risen very long and was warming the front of the building and grasses in the foreground. I set my tripod up and thought I had taken a nice memory of the morning. The top image is the original slide and I was disappointed by the lack of warmth in the picture. The colours had come out much bluer than I remembered from the morning. This is why I now carry as warm up filter with me for slide photgraphy. The bottom image was manipulated in photoshop to recreate the picture I still had in my memory. I used a channel mixer adjustment layer and adjusted the values of the Red, Blue and Green channels to simulate the warm up filter. From Photoshop 7 I could have simply applied a warm up filter in the 'photo filters' option. Pentax *ist D Sigma 28 - 200mm lens. |
