Adding more borders:

Using scanned borders,

Others borders / frames can be used to enhance your images. These can either be drawn by yourself or even scanned from negatives etc. What ever process you use it is important to convert the image into a monochrome image as you will see below:

First scan in your border, in this example I am using a 35mm film strip.

The next stage is to simply drag your image on top of your scanned negative and then change the blend mode in the layers palette to create the desired image.

To make the process easier make sure you resize the images so that both are roughly the same size and resolution. Next change the layers stack so that the negative is on top of the photograph.

Lastly change the blend mode to darken, you will see that everything on the photograph that is darker than on the negative will show through.

In my example the image is visible through the white area of the negative, but the black frame of the negative remains opaque, this makes a very crisp join and the final image is believable and very simple to do.
