This tree is located near Walltown, Northumberland near Hadrians Wall. I knew the location of the tree at the top of a small hill above the quarry. On the morning of my visit the weather was cold and wet however as the sun began to appear I noticed it breaking through the cloud and saw that the light would illuminate the tree against the dark thundery sky.

I always under-expose my digital images so that I can retain detail in the highlights, the other advantage I find in this technique is that the colours become more saturated.
