Sarnen See, Boat yard, Switzerland Unterwalden is a canton in central Switzerland, one of the Four Forest Cantons. It was the first Swiss community to win their freedom from the Hapsburgs and in 1291 with the three mountain forest cantons (Unterwalden, Schwyz, and Uri) formed the League of Forest Cantons as the nucleus of an independent Switzerland. It is a mountainous and forested region with a population of approx. 30,200 and has as its canton capital Sarnen. This photograph is the view from the banks of Sarnen See looking South East towards the Alps. I used a neutral density graduate filter, turned diagonally, to ensure that the image was correctly exposed across the whole image. Pentax *ist D Sigma 28 - 135mm lens. |
