The festival takes place over one weekend in
October each year, it has developed since its start and now extends
along the North Yorkshire Railway to include the towns of Grosmont
and Levisham. Pickering remains the central hub of the
weekend and starts with the local children being 'evacuated' at the
station and continues with other organised events throughout the
whole weekend with the traditional wreath laying ceremony on Sunday
to remember those who lost their lives. The main attraction for me
and lots of local photographers is the hundreds of people who attend
the event in 1940'2 costume - all willing to pose for photographs.
The
below photographs were all taken on the Friday at Pickering, which
is supposed to be the quiet day. However the station and town centre
were full of people dressed in period clothing and almost as many
photographers.
