Jim,

This portrait was taken during a club portrait workshop at Consett Photographic Society. Jim being the father-in-law of one of the members.

2 Studio flash heads were used to illuminate Jim, to create an atmospheric image. I positioned the flashes not only to create the right effect but also to produce a single catchlight in Jim's eyes. This is very important as more than one catchlight not only looks distracting but looks false. 

The image was converted to monochrome in photoshop to produce a timeless feel and also to dull down the colours in Jim's shirt.
