Jesmond
Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne. Jesmond Dene was created by the 19th Century industrial
developer, Lord Armstrong as a unique gift and resource for the people of Newcastle. It is a narrow wooded valley that follows the river Ouseburn between South Gosforth and Jesmond Vale.
The dene provides an important wildlife corridor right into the centre of
Newcastle, and is a spectacular mix of native and exotic tree. It is home to a lot of wildlife, notably the Kingfisher, the Red Squirrel and many woodland birds. The image is of one of the many bridges that allow the footpaths to criss-cross over the Ouseburn. I used a poloroid filter on the camera to increase the reflections in the water to creat a perfect reflection of the bridge. The original scan was scanned into photoshop and the levels tweaked. The important tip however when tweaking the levels is to make sure the reflection is darker than the image. If it becomes to light then the image looks imbalanced and not at all natural.
