Groverake Mine eventually closed in 1999 after almost two centuries of active life.

The mine is located West of Rookhope in a desolate and isolated position beside Rookhope Burn. It was originally a lead mine but like most of the mines that continued operating in the area it changed to the mining of fluorspar.
