Neville,

A studio portrait taken at Consett Photographic Society, of one of my fellow members.

I set up the studio lights to give a complimentary lighting using two lights both with umbrellas set one either side of his face.

I am fascinated with split portraits and knew that this would make a suitable image due to the head on view. I selected Nevilles right hand side of his face and copied it and flipped it and merged it. This created a composite image of two right hand sides of his face. However I then rubbed through the layer to reveal  his correct hands and shoulders which confuses the viewer as they are not quite sure what they are looking at. Finally I de-saturated the image but rubbed through to reveal the original colour in his eyes.

Canon 30D camera, 17-85mm lens.
