The Lorwy - The Lowry opened on 28th April 2000, set in a magnificent waterside location at the heart of the redeveloped Salford Quays in Greater Manchester,
it is an architectural flagship with a unique and dynamic identity. Rising from the regenerated docklands, it is a welcoming building, designed to reflect the surrounding landscapes and flourishing waterways, in its glass and metallic surfaces. I have given this image a digital split tone look, as I wanted to bring out the dark blues in the sky and the shadows but give a warmer tone to the highly reflective walls of the building. I changed the original file to monochrome and then added a colour balance adjustment layer. I then increased the blue in the shadows and increase the yellows and reds in the highlights and midtones. You can see the full method in the tips and hints section on the home page. This image would be classed as colour due to having 'two tones plus black' if it were submitted to a photography competition. However I have included it in monochrome as it reproduces a classic darkroom monochrome technique. Canon 30D and Canon 17 - 85mm lens. |
